 AL-SHAMIYAH URBAN DEVELOPMENT COMPANY

Al Shamiyah is a Saudi limited liability company; with paid-up capital of SR 200 Million. It was founded in 2003; for the purpose of evaluating the viability of redeveloping a mega scale urban project -covering 1.25 Million square meters north of the Holy Mosque- in Makkah Al-Mukkaramah through a comprehensive Master Plan that combines both redevelopment and urban upgrade. This was achieved by forming a local Arab team in collaboration with some of the best urban planners in the world.
North Haram Redevelopment Project will witness modern infrastructure and road networks that will be the backbone of the new smart district. The parcelation plan depicts different land uses including hotels, serviced residential buildings, commercial centers, public facilities, and permanent residences. It provides an additional population capacity for about 150,000 persons.

The experience of Al-Shamiyah in developing the northern area of the Holy Mosque represents an outstanding model to redevelop Informal Settlements based on partnership between the public and private sectors; it also aims at finding practical solutions for the Urban challenges faced by major Arabian cities. The model is based on a methodology of creating an Urban concept which provides practical solutions for chronic problems of the targeted areas, such as the population capacity, congested traffic of pedestrians and vehicles, hygiene, security, and environmental balancing. Putting a legal scheme to secure participation of landowners and thus providing a lucrative economic platform to realize additional value to all stakeholders involved.
