Randall (Randy) Jones has spent 25 years in the magazine publishing and media businesses. He is the Founder of Worth Magazine—the financial lifestyle magazine for active wealthy investors. Mr. Jones launched Worth in February of 1992 and was the guiding force behind its growth to 500,000 circulation in just 3 years. Mr. Jones’ success with Worth landed him on Adweek’s “Strongest Performers “ list and Folio’s “40 under 40 Achievers” list. Regarded as an industry maverick, he became the youngest publisher of a major magazine in history when he took the helm of Esquire Magazine at age 29.
Mr. Jones also founded The American Benefactor Magazine—the first magazine about philanthropy from the donor’s perspective and he bought Civilization—The Magazine of the Library of Congress in 1997, which he later sold to the Atlantic Monthly. Random House published his first book, The Greatest Stock Picks of All Time and he is currently researching and writing his next book entitled, The Richest Man in Town, where he is interviewing the “richest man or woman in town” in the 100 largest towns in America to determine their commonalities and ultimately the secrets to great wealth creation in modern America.
Mr. Jones currently serves as Chairman of Avant Films, an independent film distribution company and CEO of American Movie Maker Media with offices in New York and Los Angeles. He sits on the boards of Wilmington Trust New York, Access International Advisors—a family of hedge funds, Trinity Capital Partners and ManiaTV. In addition, Jones is a member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO), The Creative Coalition and the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy. To satiate his passion for economic education, Mr. Jones is an active board member of The National Council for Economic Education. He was also recently honored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America as “Philanthropist of the Year.”
He serves as the voice of the ABC Radio program “A Minute’s Worth, which is syndicated daily to 4,600 ABC radio affiliates and is a frequent public speaker on the interests, lifestyles and investment habits of America’s wealthy. In addition, Jones is a frequent commentator on numerous television shows including, The Today Show, CNBC, CNN, CNNFN and Fox News. Fox News recently dubbed Mr. Jones “the anthropologist of America’s rich.”
A graduate of the University of Georgia in 1977, Mr. Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism. In 1988, he was honored to receive the John E. Drewry Award as outstanding alumnus of the year and in 2002 he was awarded the Alumni Merit Award—the highest honor awarded to alumni of The University of Georgia.
Mr. Jones still calls Carrollton, Georgia home, but lives in New York City with his wife and their 3 sons.
